Today marks the official launch of Hay's new three bin system, aimed at enhancing waste management and sustainability within our community. The new system includes separate bins for general waste (red), recycling (yellow), and organic (green) waste.
Commencing July 1st, 2024, the first phase of the roll-out begins with the collection of the organic (green) waste bins. Residents are encouraged to place their green waste bins out for collection as per their regular schedule.
For residents who still have waste in their old red bins, they can place them out for collection alongside their next scheduled red bin pick-up on either the 10th or 11th of July, depending on their area's collection schedule. These bins will be emptied accordingly.
Residents have the option to keep their old red bins for personal use on their premises. Alternatively, they may place their old red bins upside down on the naturestrip for collection by Council starting from July 25th.
To coincide with the launch of the new system, waste fees at the local tip have also commenced. Residents will enjoy a two-week fee-free period starting from today, providing an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the new fee structure for waste disposal at the waste transfer station.
Knowledgeable staff will be available on-site to assist residents, provide information on costs, and direct them to the appropriate disposal areas.
The collection of waste fees at the Waste Centre will officially begin on Monday, July 15th, 2024.
