Water Users Survey

At present water is delivered to households and business in the town areas of Hay, by Hay Shire Council and metered at the water connection. The water use is then manually read by a Hay Shire Council staff member.  Premises then receive an invoice for water use based on the water meter read. Hay Shire Council is one of the last councils in NSW to still do manual meter reads.

This process is labour intensive and as a result takes a considerable amount of time to process.  Hay Shire Council is proposing to implement a digital metering system that would replace the current water meters with a digital meter to provide more accurate reads, reduce leaks and costs.

The digital meters will allow households or businesses to:
  • Check their water at any time on their phone
  • Accurately measure water use
  • Identify water leaks or issues at the house or business any time on their phone
  • Ensure efficient use of water
For example, as a household or business you will be able to identify if you have a leaking pipe, dripping tap or connection issue that costs you money.

Hay Shire Council will be applying for grant funding to fund the implementation of the meters. As part of the process, we are conducting a short survey to gather feedback from you as a water user.

Hay Shire Council requests residents complete this survey by FRIDAY 25 October 2024, there are three ways  to compete the survey ;
