Empowering workshop delivered for girls

The uplifting and educational workshop “Project Empower” was delivered to 42 girls aged 14 to 18 years of age at Hay War Memorial High School on Wednesday the 29th of August.

Project Empower is a national ‘workshop road trip’ for the empowerment of teenage girls in rural and remote Australia to reach their leadership potential. The program was run by award-winning, youth-driven nonprofit organisation Country to Canberra CEO, Hannah Wandel.

The fifteen thousand kilometre road trip journey comes to an end this week, and the volunteer facilitators will have travelled to over 80 communities and reached out to over 3000 young women.

Hannah said “It was amazing to see the enthusiasm of the girls in Hay, and their passion for building up their community.  We absolutely loved visiting Hay! We felt honoured to be asked to come and present Projector Empower. After talking with the girls, we feel excited to see what their bright futures hold”.

Guest speaker on the day was local Detective Sergeant Kerynne Martin who gave an inspirational talk and presented some great practical encouragement to the students.

The workshop was thanks to project sponsors Holden, NSW Department of Primary Industries and Capital Giving. Hay Shire Council promoted and coordinated the workshop and provided a delicious morning tea.
