Water for Fodder Program

Water for Fodder Program
The Government has released the Guidelines for the Water for Fodder Program and farmers can apply for 50 ML parcels of water up to 100 ML.

40 GL is being made available in this first instalment.

The water is being made available at $100 per megalitre for the production of fodder, silage and pasture and is aimed at providing relief for livestock producers in the southern Murray Darling Basin and nationally.

The Water for Fodder program is part of the Government’s drought response package and is the first instalment of water under the historic deal with South Australia, with the second 60 GL instalment to follow in April 2020 after an evaluation.

Farmers can apply for the first instalment on 9 December 2019 with water to flow to their accounts before Christmas.
The first instalment of water will need to be used before 30 June 2020.

This water will help farmers to maintain their breeding stock during the drought so when it breaks, farmers can recover faster.
