Saying NO to Water Buybacks

Hay Shire Council is urging residents to support a petition led by local member for Murray, Helen Dalton MP, which seeks to protect regional and remote communities from the potential impacts of Commonwealth Water Buybacks. The petition can be signed in the Council main office in Lachlan Street or at the Hay Library, copies can also be downloaded here.

Sale of Unpaid Rates Auction

Hay Shire Council has resolved,  in pursuance of Section 713 (2) of the Local Government Act 1993 to sell the land hereunder at a public auction in the Council Chambers, Hay, at 11:00am in Firday 16th August. If all rates and charges payable (including overdue rates and charges) are not paid to Council or an arrangement satisfactory to the Council is not entered into by the rateable person before the time fixed for the sale, the Council will proceed with the sale. Hay Shire Council, gives notice that non-residents are entitled to vote in the upcoming Local Government Election on 14 September 2024 and are entitled to be enrolled as electors, if they are owners, rate paying lessees or occupiers of rateable land in the Hay Local Government area.

Draft Policy – Sale (Trade) of Water

As a Local Water Utility (LWU), Council is permitted to engage in Temporary Trade of Town Water Allocations with the approval of DPE – Water (i.e. requires Ministerial approval). This policy on the Sale (Trade) of Water has been developed to meet community expectations, maximise returns and minimise risk. Council has resolved to place the draft policy on public exhibition and comments will be received up until 5.00pm Friday 7th June 2024
